The universal movement and combat principles are the same for all the Chinese internal martial arts such Taijiquan, Baguazhang, Xingyiquan, Yiquan, Liu He Ba Fa and Wing Chun, and also other older martial arts from the east, like Japan (Aikido) and Russia (Systema). When I wrote the book Taiji Quan for Self Defense I wrote this inside the book, but seems many don't understand how this is possible. People see various martial arts from the used techinques and mainly all these styles were modified in the past, so they look very different from outside. But all these martial arts were developed on same principles and similar skills are required. The techniques are only external expressions of these arts and not their essence. The various internal martial arts have a different history, however there is also the possibility that some knowledge influenced each other. The principles of these martial arts (as they were in the past) were very similar and in some cases also the same. Today many of these internal martial arts lost their knowledge about these principles and are mainly based on techniques. The purpose of this book is to explore the core principles of the internal fighting methods, which were based on principles and skills development. Also we want to give to the practitioners of these martial arts a new view on what are the basics of these martial arts and the core exercises that they must do to get the most out of them.
